5 out of 5 stars It does EXACTLY what its meant to do   August 28, 2006

I like this box. It was easy to assemble within a few minutes. There are optional accessories to divide the inside, but none are included with this box. The assembled box is large enough to fit standard-sized garden tools, such as rakes, hoes, etc.

It has been in my back yard, under my second-story porch for the two months now. I put all my lawn-care equipment (sprayers, insecticides, tools, etc.) in it. None of them has gotten wet despite a few very heavy downpours. There is a place on the handle to apply a lock if you so choose.

It is not "airtight" so I imagined insects might make their way inside, but so far that hasn't happened. Maybe because I don't keep any food in it, or maybe the platic smell is a repellant.

It is definitely sturdy enough to sit on.

You can't push this box flush with a wall because it needs about three inches of clearance behind it to allow for opening it without scrating the rear of the top.

All in all, a good purchase. Amazon's price is also perfect. I compared to my local Lowes, and Amazon's price is better - and with free shipping and no tax. Can't beat that!

5 out of 5 stars Best box for the money   July 8, 2006

I use this box as a dock box at my marina. Huge space inside and only a fraction of the cost of "real" fiberglass dock boxes.
Very easy to assemble. Took only 5 minutes since all pieces snap together (there are only 6 pieces total). Sturdy and weahther proof.
One thing is unfortunate. RubberMaid used to include one devider but for some reason does not do this anymore.

5 out of 5 stars This deck box is Ginormous!!!!   June 16, 2006

This was exactly what we needed! We have 10 deck chairs with double pillows and everytime it was going to rain, we had no idea where we were going to put them. It was annoying taking them off and putting them in the house. So, we made the purchase - which is pricey - but will save us from having to buy new cushions next year. It will save summer money in the long term. Besides that, it also serves as extra seating in case you should need it. The deck box is really extra large, so be sure that you have an idea of where you are going to put it before you buy. We have an oversized deck, so it works for us. It is really a nice product. I am so happy that we bought this one.

5 out of 5 stars Roomy and Sturdy   January 27, 2007

This is as good a storage box for the price as we've found. It's sturdy, roomy and looks as if the inside will remain dry (we keep it out on our patio). Assembly was a breeze as the assembly pictures are printed on the outside of the large shipping carton -- if you know your letters, you're home free.

Inserting the lid's hinge pins into the keepers on the back wall of the box is a snap. As mentioned elsewhere, place the flat part of the tip of a large screwdriver against the pin and smack the tip with a hammer to drive the pin home. Took all of 15 minutes to assemble, including walking out to the garage to find the screwdriver and hammer.

We like it so much, we're thinking of ordering a second box.

5 out of 5 stars Great storage, semi-difficult assembly   July 22, 2006

I have a number of Rubbermaid Outdoor Storage items. All all great. This is a new design for rubbermaid and it seem that it will be better than the last deck box I bought a few years ago (it is too small for all the cushions we now have). The only problem I have with this one is the hinges. There were no screws that came with my unit. The picture instructions show that I am supposed to screw the two plastic straps into the inside top and side panels. There are no screw holes. There are also no instructions on Rubbermaid's website for this item. If anyone has any solutions, please post them.

As for using the piece of wood, the diagram looked to me as if I was supposed to wedge the board between the top and back pieces to hit the end of the hinge into the hole. The board is too wide to do so. I started to use a putty knife (thinking hard thin item that would fit between the back and top pieces) when I realized that what the picture doesn't show is that they want you to line up the end of the board with the outside top of the back piece, not in between the top and back pieces. Instead of getting up to get the board, I used the handle of the putty knife as the buffer between the plastic hinge and the rubber mallet (works better than a hammer when dealing with hollow plastic).

Hope this helps.
